FAQs

Here are the answers to some of the frequently asked questions (FAQ) about the Recreation (Rec) League.

Will my child get an equal chance to play?

Yes. Our policy clearly states that each child will play at least 50% of the game, and our coaches do a very good job of keeping to this, even with all that goes on during the game. Exceptions to this rule are made when a child has exhibited bad conduct or unsportsmanlike behavior, or is injured, or for other reasons where the safety of the child or others is a concern.

How are the teams chosen?

Our Recreation Director works diligently to balance each team by age, gender, and experience.  We try to accommodate requests (please send any requests that you may have to us by email) but we can't guarantee that all requests can be fulfilled.  We assign coaches to each team from a pool of volunteers.  We only assign assistant coaches if there are enough head coaches for all of the teams.

Why do some teams seem to lose a lot, and others win so often?

We do our best to balance teams, but there are several prevailing factors:
1. Height, age, gender, and even years of playing experience may not matter, and don't serve as the only traits that determine talent
2. All of our coaches are volunteers and have different abilities and experience levels
3. Sometimes children drop out during the season, leaving a team shorthanded (if this occurs, please let the rec director know!)

How do I know if the game has been canceled due to rain?

The club will send out an email, use the text message system, and let all of the coaches know to contact their team.  We will also post to our facebook page.

Will a canceled game be rescheduled?

If possible, a make up day will be scheduled, but what happens most often is that coaches arrange to scrimmage each other informally to make up the game.

What equipment do I need?

All players must wear the current Fury FC jersey, black athletic shorts, black soccer socks, shin guards, and soccer cleats.  We may sometimes ask that players wear turf shoes or tennis shoes to practice during the spring season to help preserve bermuda grass when it is dormant.  Players will also need a soccer ball of appropriate size (U6/U8 - size 3, U10/U12 - size 4, U14+ size 5) and a water bottle.  We also recommend a bag to keep everything in, as players often leave things at the field.

How long will practices last, and how often will we practice?

U6 - U10 rec teams have one, 60 minute sessions per week.  U12 has two, 60 minute sessions per week.  Cross Association/Select teams have two, 90 minute sessions per week.

Where and when do we practice?

Most practices are at Fighting Creek Park, but some may be at Fury Training Center.  We typically have U6 practice on Wednesday nights, U8 practice on Monday nights, U10 on Tuesday OR Thursday nights, and U12 on Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday, depending on field availability.  Cross Association/Select teams also practice on a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday schedule, depending on field and coach availability.
